Thanks, St George Christian School... and Kate!
I had a great visit to St George Christian School yesterday, and wanted to let everyone know about the fantastic program they run for their students each year. They have an entire unit of work where the junior school focuses on creativity - writing stories, creating artworks, and generally getting inspired. Each student is equipped with a personal journal for recording all their brilliant ideas. As part of this program, the school has an Author and Illustrator day, where they invite writers and illustrators to come and talk to the kids, and I was lucky enough to be part of it this year. I was so impressed with how engaged and creative everyone was - even the teachers. When I left at lunchtime, they were all looking forward to spending the entire afternoon on free drawing and writing, filling their journals with all the ideas that the talks had sparked in them, and creating their own stories and images. How I would have loved a week like this when I was at school.
I would just like to give a special mention to Kate, who not only met me at the gate and helped my find my way to where I was supposed to be (without her, I'd probably still be wandering in the wilds of Hurstville, wrestling the wild crocodiles for scraps of food), but also gave me this lovely drawing at the end of the day. I certainly won't forget you, Kate!
