Getting out of my comfort zone...

I'm not very good with watercolour and ink and things that are see-through. I like nice thick paint which lets me cover all my mistakes, of which there are many! But I'm working on a job at the moment which requires black and white illustrations in ink and pencil, and it's actually been great to try something new. It's loosening me up and making me be a lot more free and relaxed about how I draw, because I don't have the option to redo things or go over and over them again. Here are a couple of experiments, some illustrations I did for The School Magazine. The story was a very surreal little tale about a boy who is given strange clues by kids he's never met before, which lead him to... well, you'll just have to read the story to find out.
